Tail On

Saturday started out a bit foggy but pleasantly cool. After our morning ritual coffee I headed off to Chino. The last of the repairs were completed and I started to attach the tail.
It was a fun day despite working in the tail in 30 degree heat as lots of visitors passed by for a quick chat.

By about 15:00 I had the tail on, cowls on, tail wiring connected and started the control rigging. The rudder cable turnbuckles need safety wire after setting the tension. I noted the elevator needs a little more tension so I’ll do that while I’m at it.

It was too hot by then so I went back to the hotel for a swim and then Vicki and I went to Victoria Gardens shopping Center. it’s a very pleasant outdoor Center that I’m sure Auckland’s Bontany Downs was modelled on but it works here since the weather is much better.

After wandering, or rather hobbling, around the shops we went for a nice Japanese meal and drive back to the hotel.
A productive and fun day.

I live in New Zealand with my lovely wife Vicki along with our animals on a block of land in Helensville. Back in 1994 I had this crazy idea to build a plane. Since then its been a huge part of my life. My day job has varied over the years. I started out as a computer engineer and now I'm an airline pilot. You would think that would tire me of flying but airline flying isn't really flying. The small planes are fun and make me remember why I started flying in the first place. This blog is a demonstration of some of the crazy ideas that pop into my head from time to time. The way I see it, life is too short to not give these wild ideas a go. I don't mind if people think I'm crazy. I probably am.
